Our history

A century of God's faithfulness in Watsonville.

From a tent meeting to a hundred years of ministry — the same gospel, in the same city.

The story

It began in a tent.

For generations, First Baptist Church has been part of Watsonville’s life. Buildings and seasons have changed; our calling remains.

Our story began with meetings in a tent, gathered around a desire to share the Gospel. On August 21, 1914, a group of charter members formally established the church in Watsonville.

A simple wood-sided building became a place to worship and grow together. Through changing generations and new facilities, the church has continued to preach the gospel, teach Scripture, and respond in worship.

The mission

To make disciples and share the hope of Jesus with our neighbors and the nations.

Centennial

100

Years of God at work here

“For 100 years, God has been busy here. He has accomplished so much more than those first 25 members could have imagined.”

We give thanks for the people, ministries, and moments that have shaped the church, and look ahead with hope for what God will do in the years to come.
