Giving FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I give?

Regular giving is a mark of a maturing Christian. We give not out of duty, obligation, or guilt, but give joyfully as a part of our worship. Also, your giving supports FBC in its mission “to help people transform into maturing followers of Christ”.

How much should I give?

Biblical generosity is a tithe of 10% of our first and best. However, the Apostle Paul tells us we are to give cheerfully what “each has decided in his heart” (2 Corinthians 9:7). That amount may be a flat amount or a percentage. Through prayer, consider what you can give, trusting God to provide.

Who do I make my check out to?

Checks can be made payable to: “First Baptist Church Watsonville” or “FBC Watsonville”

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes, donations are tax deductible providing you did not receive any good or service. If you are giving toward a book, T-shirt, meal, camp tuition, etc. those are not tax deductible because you received a good or service.

What tax year will my contribution be counted for?

Your contribution will be counted toward the year in which the office received the donation, or if mailed, by the date of the postmark. (Example: You wrote your check in Dec 2017 but put it in the offering in Jan 2018. It would be counted toward the 2018 tax year. If you mailed your check and it was postmarked in 2017, even if we receive it in 2018, it will go toward the 2017 tax year.)

How do I prove I made a contribution?

FBC provides year end statements of contributions. Please ensure your name is attached to your donation.
